What Is So Special about Vietnamese Coffee?
The coffee varieties, especially Robusta, from Vietnam have a fairly strong flavor and a thick texture due to the slow and long dark roast. Sometimes the Vietnamese beans are roasted with sugar, butter. Some manufacturers decide to add vanilla or cocoa during roasting.
The best coffees in Vietnam are traditionally made with a phin filter. This consists of a perforated plate that is placed on top of the cup. The plate is topped with a metal container in which the ground Vietnamese coffee is mixed with hot water, and then this preparation is slowly poured directly into the cup.

How to Pick the Best Vietnamese Coffee?

Two coffee types are the most popular: that is the Robusta and arabica. It is estimated that 97% of the country’s coffee production is focused on the Robusta variety, considered until now as of worse quality than others such as Arabica.

Many experts, however, reject this simplistic view and argue that the important thing is not so much the variety, but the quality of the beans, be they Robusta or Arabica.
In fact, for years, many local producers have opted to cultivate a higher quality coffee while, in parallel, others began to implement the Arabica variety, also, in all cases, to improve cultivation methods and processing techniques.
Beans vs. Pre-ground
If you want the taste benefit from your Vietnamese coffee, then choosing the whole beans is a no-brainer! But you have to put the situation of use into consideration. You’d need a brewing machine. For enjoying tasty, strong coffee at home, ungrounded beans are recommended. However, for travelers or drinkers who are always on the go, pre-ground coffee products are the ideal. Pregrinding also offers makers to work on the aroma and flavor better than they could with the ordinary roasting of the whole beans. Coffee production begins with the harvesting of the fruit of the coffee plant (also called cherry), from which the seeds are extracted and then subjected to drying and roasting. Roasting is one of the fundamental stages of processing. It determines the aromatic profile of the blend. There are different types of roasts: light, medium, and dark.
The dark roasting produces a strong and intense coffee, with a not very strong acidity and a lower amount of caffeine. Some certifications and approval indicate the quality or organic system of growth. These certifications or approval may be issued by the USFDA or International Coffee Organization. Ways of Brewing Vietnamese Coffee

You’ll have to put the condensed milk in a cup. Vietnamese coffee makers rest on the same cup. Put the ground coffee and cover it with a threaded hole. Then hot water is added and the water gradually dissolves the coffee that falls into the cup. Vietnamese coffee has a strong flavor since it has a higher percentage of caffeine. For this reason, when adding condensed milk, the flavor is attenuated but you’ll notice this more in the variety of mild coffee such as Arabica.
