Our list kicks off with arguably our favorite pick on the market today. The El Jaguar Honduran Coffee from Clean Coffee Co is sustainable, ethically sourced, and offers a smooth flavor that beats out much of the competition.

These coffee beans have a very low acidity, which makes them great for those who don’t enjoy acidic coffee. So, you can expect a deep and bold flavor from these beans with fruity notes at the end for a more distinct and complex flavor. The coffee features a medium-dark roast, so it combines the best of both worlds with the low acidity of dark roasts and the fruity notes of medium roasts.

What are our favorite features?

  • One of our favorite things about this coffee is the flavor. Now, it isn't the boldest flavor out there, in fact, many customers report that this offers a mild and mellow taste, which is a key characteristic of Honduran coffee. If you aren't a fan of bold and strong flavors, this coffee is great, since it doesn't have that much bitterness and has very low acidity. This is a great everyday coffee to kickstart your day, a great choice for casual coffee drinks and connoisseurs alike.

What could be better?

  • One thing we didn't like about this coffee was its strength. When trying out a cup of this coffee ourselves, we found that it didn't have that strong of a kick. Now, if you aren't looking for incredibly high-caffeine options, that's fine. However, if you have a hard time starting your day without that signature coffee kick, make sure to brew your drinks extra strong with these beans since they don't have that much caffeine in them.

These coffee beans are organic and offer a great flavor, which is why so many customers ranked them on the top of their coffee bean lists. And when we tested it out ourselves, we found that the coffee tastes great, offers a strong kick, and releases an amazing aroma when brewed, making it a great choice for your morning cup of joe.

This bag of beans is a great fit for just about anybody who enjoys the mild notes of Honduran coffee. While it has a very distinct flavor, it’s also a very balanced one, so you don’t get any excessive bitterness or acidity. Since it’s a medium roast coffee, you can expect some fruity notes on the top, which the roaster describes as “pear” flavors, which for the most part, is accurate.

Why is it special?

  • Our favorite thing about this coffee is its flavor. These are fully-washed beans that are mechanically dried, so you can expect consistency, especially with fresh bags. When you drink this coffee, you get a wide variety of different yet subtle notes, which makes it a great choice for avid coffee lovers. This is a premium option that many consider being some of the best that you can find on Amazon, and for the most part, we definitely agree.

What are the flaws?

  • One thing we didn't like about these beans is that some bags tend to lack freshness. This may just be due to the date it was roasted, so you have to make sure to check that it wasn't roasted too long ago that the flavors start to diminish. And since these beans are medium-roasted, you won't be getting dark and deep flavors, which some people might expect from their Honduran coffee beans.

More features: non-GMO verified, freshly-roasted

This bag of whole bean coffee has a fairly high caffeine content and features medium-roasted beans. That means you get smooth and robust flavors without too much bitterness, making for a very balanced overall flavor.

If you’re looking for Honduran coffee beans on a budget, this is a great option for you. While it is definitely one of our more affordable picks, it still features everything you’ll want from quality coffee beans. Since they’re non-GMO, you’re assured of a very natural flavor that’s safe for your body. All of these features are great, especially considering the price of the beans.

What stands out?

  • Our favorite feature of this coffee was its value for the money. While it's an affordable and budget-friendly option, it still offers a smooth and robust flavor that you usually expect from options in a much higher price tier. Additionally, since these are all-natural and fresh-roasted coffee beans, you can really taste the difference between these and hyper-commercialized coffee beans you might find at the grocery store.

What cons did we manage to find?

  • One thing we didn't enjoy with these beans is that since they are freshly roasted, you have to make sure to get a fresh batch. There were more than a few customers who enjoyed the coffee, but upon ordering their second bag, they found that it wasn't fresh anymore. However, this was the only complaint we could find for this great-tasting Honduran coffee available on a budget.

  • Size: 72 pods

More features: USDA organic certified, recyclable, compostable, K-cup compatible

Honduran beans are great for pod coffee, as it allows you to really extract the best flavor possible. Similar to its whole bean counterpart, these pods impart a mild yet balanced flavor, but since they are coffee pods, you will get a more concentrated flavor with accentuated details.

If you own a pod coffee machine, these are some of the best pods on the market. They’re organic, K-cup compatible, and made of recyclable and compostable materials. So, aside from being some of the highest-quality Honduran coffee pods out there, they’re also environmentally sustainable, which is a major requirement for coffee manufacturers in this day and age.

What do we love it for?

  • Just like with any coffee pod, we really enjoyed the convenience of using them. If you have the right machine, you can make top-quality coffee in a matter of minutes. And since this pack comes with 72 pods, it gives you more than enough to last you many mornings and cups of coffee. And since the pods are filled with 100% Arabica coffee, you are ensured of a consistent and balanced flavor all throughout.

What were we disappointed with?

  • However, one of the features we don't like about these pods is that they require a specific machine. Since you need the right coffee maker to use these, they are definitely not for everyone. On top of that, pods tend to cost a fair amount more than whole or ground beans, which means they aren't ideal for people on a tight budget.

Best Ground Coffee

Café Welchez Copan Gourmet

Features
  • Roast Level: medium
  • Caffeine Content: contain caffeine
  • Process: fully-washed
  • Size: 12 oz. bag

More features: ground coffee, high-quality beans

If you ask any coffee connoisseur out there, they’ll say that the only way to go is to grind your own beans. However, not all of us have the time, means, and equipment to do that. And since there are great pre-ground coffee beans out there like this one from Cafe Welchez, it’s easy to see why many people skip the grinder altogether.

This is a great option for casual coffee drinkers who don’t want to go through the hassle of grinding their coffee beans every morning. If all you want to do is load the grinds into the machine, French press, or whatever method you use for brewing, then this is a great option for you. And since these beans are very high-quality, you don’t sacrifice too much flavor.

What are our favorite features?

  • Since this is one of the only pre-ground options on our list, our favorite thing about this coffee was the sheer convenience. While freshly ground beans taste great, coffee grinders can be loud, expensive, and a lot of effort to use. So, for a quicker brewing experience in the morning, this is a great option for you. On top of that, it features a balanced and mild flavor that's expected from Honduran Arabica beans.

What could be better?

  • While we did enjoy the convenience, there was no denying that pre-ground coffee beans lack the complexity of freshly ground ones. And since the beans are ground fairly fine, they aren't ideal for certain brewing methods such as the French press. So, if you're very particular about the taste, texture, and strength of your coffee, you have to accept that you don't have that much control over these beans.

Things to Consider

Even with the best options laid out in front of you, if you don’t know what to look for, it can be hard to find the best Honduran coffee for you. So, to make it easier to choose the right beans, here’s a quick guide to all the things you need to consider when choosing Honduran coffee.

Here are the different coffee growing regions in Honduras;

Agalta

Copan

Copan is in the northwest of Honduras, along the border of El Salvador and Guatemala. With an elevation of 1,000-1,500 meters above sea level, farmers grow Bourbon, Caturra, and Catuai varieties of coffee, which they harvest from November to March.

How to Pick the Best Honduran Coffee

Here are some of the different characteristics you need to consider when shopping for Honduran coffee;

Roast Level

Darker roasts, like the Clean Coffee Co Honduran El Jaguar, tend to have bolder and more chocolatey flavors with lower caffeine content. And on the other hand, lighter roasts will have an acidic flavor and higher caffeine content. For the best of both worlds, we recommend medium roasts such as the Organic Honduran Marcala.

The roast level is the biggest factor when it comes to the flavor and strength of the coffee.

Caffeine Content

Caffeine content is very important when it comes to coffee. If you really need a strong kick in the morning, you can get strong options like the Twin Peaks Honduran Coffee. However, most coffee from Honduras isn’t that strong, so don’t expect incredibly high caffeine content.

Processing Method

This has a major effect on flavor. Typically, producers will use one of these four processing methods: natural process, washed process, wet-hulled, and honey processed. However, most of the beans on this list, such as the Organic Honduran Marcala Pods and the Clean Coffee Co Honduran El Jaguar options, are fully washed and machine processed. This allows for a classic coffee flavor.

Size

If you drink a lot of coffee, it’s best to choose options with a lot of beans. That way, you won’t have to end up buying and restocking regularly. For example, for pod coffee makers, you can choose the Organic Honduran Marcala Pods which come with 72 different pods designed to last you a long time.

Price

Setting a definite price range with your coffee is crucial in narrowing down your options. If you don’t have a set price range, there’s a big chance you’ll end up rifling through a bunch of different options without knowing which to choose. But with a price range, there will automatically be a number of options you won’t opt for since they are not within the range you set.

Other Features

Other things to consider are whether the coffee is organic, ethically sourced, and sustainably sourced. While these aren’t requirements, it would always be best to go for options that had these characteristics. That way, you can drink your coffee knowing it’s safe, healthy, and the farmers and everyone involved in the process were properly compensated for their effort.
