FOUNDING OF MODEST COFFEE

Once upon a long time ago, we got hooked on fresh roasted, single-origin coffee at the local farmers' market. When the winter came, our roaster was nowhere to be found so Marcus, our lead roaster, turned to a West Bend Poppery and started home roasting. Marcus was a natural and found a love in coffee roasting.

Soon we had friends, family, and co-workers buying coffee from Marcus and a coffee roasting business was born. After a couple of years of home roasting, we found a used 5 kg roaster locally and decided to just jump in and see what would happen. We started selling our coffee online, and picked up a few wholesale accounts.

BURN THE BOATS

After nearly 3 years of running Modest Coffee as a hobby business, both Marcus and Jenni took an oath of poverty and quit their regular jobs to give Modest Coffee 100%. Since then, our business has doubled year after year. Our coffee is sold online, in grocery stores, and at farmers' markets and pop-up shops.

SUPPORT & EXPERIENCE

We have done a variety of catering events but our most notable was working with PayPal for their Battle Hack events (which, sadly, are no longer running). We served coffee for 36 hours while programmers faced off to see who could develop the best app to be used for the good of the world in just 24 hours.

We catered for them in Chicago and even flew to their headquarters in San Jose for the world championship competition. It was fun and exciting to support the developers with caffeination while they worked hard for a cause they were passionate about.
