From The Roaster
COMMITMENT TO SERVICE
Passion for quality, craft coffee is the foundation of Ubora. But their commitment to service also extends from their coffee growers, to their customers and employees. Ubora responsibly sources coffee through direct trade with farms. For instance, their Rwanda Abakundakawa is sourced from a women's cooperative called Hingakawa Women's Association. The premium that the coop receives is reinvested in programs benefiting the women members.
This commitment to service extends to the Ubora cafe, where all teachers, first responders, nurses, veterans, etc. receive a discount in appreciation for and recognition of their service.
Ubora also employs a mix of veteran and retired first responders, who also share a passion for coffee and hospitality. A restored historic brick storefront in downtown Augusta, GA is revitalizing the area and has become a warm, welcoming space for the community to gather, converse or study.
UBORA COFFEE BEGINNINGS
Ubora Coffee grew out of a passion to offer quality roasted coffee locally, ambition for entrepreneurship, and commitment to improving and touching lives through the business. Owner, Andre Leon, cultivated his passion for coffee through his world travels where he was introduced to fresh roasts, with distinct notes and smooth finishes. This interest evolved to roasting coffee for several years.
With a dream of owning his own business, Andre seized the opportunity to found Ubora when the military transferred him to Augusta, GA. Andre consulted his best friend and mentor, Philip Weisner, for advice, but it turned into a partnership. Together, and both active duty Navy, they built Ubora Coffee.
COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE
Everything we do at Ubora Coffee is done with passion and respect for coffee, customers, employees, and the community. We adhere to our quality control standards from roast to brew in order to produce excellence. This in fact is the inspiration behind the name Ubora, which means "excellence."
Before a cup of coffee is presented to a customer, the green beans have been inspected, the roast has been tested and cupped, and the brew has been scaled, temperature controlled, and timed. We empower our employees to explore their passions and support them in their career development. We take pride in seeing our employees grow personally and gain confidence in their craft which in turn is shared with our customers who learn what is behind their cup of coffee and sparks conservation.
Finally, giving back has been a big part of the business. Ubora was created out of a desire, not need, to positively impact the community. As mentioned, we honor and recognize our local/national heroes by providing discounts to individuals serving the community. We have also introduced a food truck so that we may go to events supporting important causes ranging from youth soccer leagues to cancer fundraisers.
