From The Roaster

Organic and Fair Trade

Organic and Fair Trade are not something we do, it’s all we do. We are highly involved member-owners of Co-op Coffees--a roaster-owned importing cooperative. By working as part of a co-op, we are able to make a larger impact on the livelihood of our farmers and the quality of our coffee.

How Desert Sun Coffee Roasters Began

Pulling from his roots in agriculture, our founder Glenn Lathrop wanted to provide a way for people in his community to connect with each other and the environment. He also wanted to meaningfully impact the people he works with.

With a passion for coffee, delving into the coffee world and starting a roastery felt natural. Glenn started roasting beans and finally opened a roastery in 2004. Since the beginning, Desert Sun has been committed to sustainable, ethical practices.

High On Coffee

Sitting at over 6,000ft above sea level, we have to roast coffee differently. Seriously. Our roastmaster has to develop unique roast profiles for each batch of coffee that not only accommodate the the nuances of each batch, but account for the pressure difference from roasting at altitude. In other words, our roastmaster has to be extremely skilled.
